This information is intended for the older type of hard drives that have a spinning disc inside them. Not SSD's (Solid State Drives)


Defragmentation means:

"To put files back in their right location, by organising them closer to the start of your hard drive, to improve start and read times to them".

Over time all files that get moved and deleted on your system get fragmented, so in order to have a smooth system it is recommended to defrag every now and then. You can do this by either using the default windows program or by using some other software program.

Running a defragmentation in SAFE MODE is recommended because their is less interference from software, as most of the servces are not running.
